Jen's MRI today
Well, the MRI is over, but we definitely didn't get the answers that we wanted. Unfortunately our day began with Jen immediately
worked up and crying. We got to the hospital and checked in and she immediately started screaming and crying the minute she
saw the needle for the IV. She then hyperventilated and her muscles contracted and she lost total control of her legs and
hands. Talk about scary. The nurses were great and worked really hard to calm her down. Needless to say the MRI finally got
started about an hour and a half late. She did great and only had to stop the MRI one time. We then went up to see Dr. Raffel
and unfortunately he told us that her tumor has grown back. He also told us that we have two choices, the first being surgery
again and he would have to be much more aggressive, which means that there is a greater chance of her coming out of it very
weak on her right side, it would affect her face the most. Our second option is Gamma Knife radiation. It is a type of radiation
that they target only at the tumor so that it doesn't affect the rest of her brain.
So now we have to make
the decision. Dr. Raffel is setting up an appointment at Mayo for us to see the Gamma Knife people, to get their opinion and
to learn a little bit more about the procedure. Both options have their share of risks, but we have to think positive and
be grateful that we have options, many children don't get the luxury of any options at all.
I guess that is
all the news I have for now, please just pray for us to make the right decision, and for Jenna to find some peace with all
of this.
I will post again when I have some more details.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and
prayers. We don't know what we would do without our family and amazing friends!!!
